Atreus build part 1: Dry fitting the keyboard parts

This post belongs to the Atreus build series, which was introduced by Onward with the Atreus keyboard.

I received the laser-cut sheet of plywood yesterday. This time I will let pictures speak for themselves.

A light brown wooden plywood sheet, showing the laser-cut keyboard case components with charred edges from the cutting process.

Scattered wooden keyboard case pieces with a shiny beeswax finish.

Individual casing elements, lightly sanded and coated with beeswax. The two additional spacers at the bottom are spares.

Note the short clearance under the key switches pins; there isn’t much space for wiring under the switches, it will have to be done alongside the switch pins. That is, I could use one or two of the additional spacers from the sheet, but I will try to keep the casing as thin as possible.

The clearance under the key switches is rather short when using two spacers (3mm each).

I am very happy with my change to the spacers to accommodate for the USB-C breakout board, it looks good with the snug fit and rounder corners.

The spacers differ from the original Atreus to leave enough room for the USB-C breakout board.

Next step: gluing the key switches and wiring things up.
